Biography:
Ori's story began on the night of the Great Storm, a powerful weather event that ripped her free of the Spirit Tree's branches
before she were born and carried her as a glowing leaf on the wind. Naru, a woolly creature of an unknown race, who had been
observing the storm from afar, saw Ori's leaf float by her and immediately investigated. Upon landing in the foliage, Ori
was "born" into her real form. Naru saw the small creature as one who needed protection, so took Ori into her embrace and
acted as her adoptive mother.
Some time later, Ori awoke to a scenic summer day and Naru's smiling face. With her nearby fruit trees running low on fruit, the
pair spent the day working together to build a bridge across a long stretch of water, gaining access to more plentiful specimens.
After having at last made it to the other side at night time and enjoying the delicious fruit in the quietude of night, Ori wrapped a
bunch of the fruit in her arms and headed back to her cave to store it for later. However, before she can make it inside, Ori sees
the Spirit Tree from afar ablaze with light, unaware that the flood of illumination was calling for her. Naru, worried for Ori's safety, took
hold of her stunned child and hurried her inside out of harm's way.
Unaware that what she witnessed would eventually lead the Nibel(the forest around them)'s ruin, Ori and Naru slowly ate their
supply of fruit until only a single piece was left. Naru unsuccessfully attempted to find more, but the slow decay of the forest meant
it was near impossible. After Naru insisted Ori take the last piece for herself and realizing that they would both starve without
more food, Ori set out into the barren wasteland of what was once beautiful forest and discovered untouched fruit on a high branch
of a tree. After shaking it down to the ground, Ori made her way back home, thinking back on happier memories from before the
forest turned blind.
Ori eventually returned to the cave and offered Naru the fruit she had found. Naru does not answer. With mewls of concern for her
mother, Ori tried to wake her up, but to no avail. Realizing that Naru had died of starvation in an act of selflessness for her,
Ori laid down on her body, devastated by the loss.
Ori decided to leave her lifelong home shortly after, with no reason to stay now that the only parent her ever knew was dead. As she
journeyed deeper into the decaying forest, Ori became very weak without food or the supporting light of the Spirit Tree. She trudged
aimlessly forward into withering darkness, each step growing more and more difficult, until it all became too much. Ori fell from
exhaustion and drew one last breath. Upon her death, thousands of tiny white flowers grew and chased away the cloud of
darkness, revealing that Ori had nearly made it to the Spirit Tree. Having sensed that his child had fallen, the Spirit Tree used the
last of his strength and light to revive Ori.
Shortly after being revived, Ori traveled through the forest and encountered a mysterious light. The light hovered close to her and introduced itself as Sein, the eyes and
source of the Spirit Tree's light. Sein offered to guide and support Ori from that point onward.
