Biography:
Lord Corann started off simply as Velmore Corann, son of a wealthy couple who ran a business in the town of Annibari on Ur-thur. As the years went on, he took over the business around the same time as the Lord's son taking over the town. The new Lord was incredibly greedy, Ever-raising taxes to fund his lifestyle, which the more it costs the more he wants it. As taxes continued to ride, not only were people having trouble paying them, but so was the commerce of the town. Businesses went under, new businesses couldn't start under the tax regime.
People who couldn't pay went to slavery. Those who lost their jobs because of businesses closing went into slavery. Soon the palace no longed needed employees as the slaves were now handling everything with the guards constantly watching them. The guards, part of the Lord's lifestyle ensured that any slaves that dared go against the Lord were promptly put to death.
Velmore's business , with the funds of past generations and trade done outside of the city walls, was quite wealthy. Trade done outside the borders were not taxed, so he was able to keep the business afloat quite well. Other businesses were not so lucky, and he knew if the other businesses fell, there would be less business for him and it could bring his own down as well. As such, he gave extremely low-interest loans to other businesses, helping them stay afloat and make customers outside of town as well so that commerce didn't die completely.
Eventually, Velmore decided enough was enough. One evening at a 'commerce meeting' he proposed a revolt against the Lord. The other business owners were very much against this and some even considered having him arrested. Then Velmore spoke of their families their loved ones, how they're being put to slavery in the palace and tat one day it could be them. He pointed out what remained of their home, and how the guards only truly cared about protecting the palace. What would happen to them if there was a bandit raid or an invasion? It took some time, but they agreed to help with the raid. Word quickly spread, and soon it was several thousand marching on the palace. The guards, seeing the sheer number coming at the palace, quickly ran off, leaving the Lord to fend for himself. His life did not last long after that...
Once the rebel force entered the palace proper following the death of the Lord, they saw some of the most expensive items some of them had ever seen everywhere in the palace.. and the treasury was full to overflowing. After a quick discussion with the commerce leaders, much of the wealth was given back to the citizens, who had been taxed out of house and home for so many years. Then there was talk of who should rule, or if there should be a council. The leaders of commerce suggested Velmore take over. He initially refused, but after numerous requests, and evidence he was the most fair and knew the best for the economic future of the town he finally agreed.
Using much of the remaining funds in the treasury, he promoted the businesses in town, and converted a large amount of the area in front of the palace to a trade market. With the oppression gone and taxes nearly non-existent due to the funds in the palace, traders from other towns, as well as nomadic tribes from the deserts to the south, came to sell their wares. With the large number of guards purchased, the trade distract was very safe, and the low taxes encouraged trade increase. Soon, even with the low rates in town, the town was fully guarded, the town walls were being improved and reinforced, and prosperity continued for many years, until Anabarri became known as the Trade Center of the Mid-Lands.
One day as he was being watched by his loyal bodyguard Shanelle, high wizards managed to open a strange portal in his palace. After having Shanelle explore it, they found it led to a strange and very advanced world knock as Fantasy Island. Interested on seeing this world for himself, Corann left a Magistrate in charge of the town, and went through. Since then he has found a way back, frequently ensuring the Magistrate runs the town fairly in his absence and even starting work for trade between the two worlds.
