Personality:
Jade is a sarcastic person, and can sometimes be this way to the point of being cruel, however, usually he knows how the people around him will respond, and doesn't mean any long-term damage from a quip here and there. He finds humor in being witty, and sometimes, going to the point of cruelty to make a joke, or voice an opinion.
It's hard to tell if he is being serious most of the time or not, as he usually wears a smile that even in the darkest of situations can't be seen through. Even if he assures people he's always serious, no one believes him. It's hard to make him lose his composure, but with the right buttons being pressed, it's not impossible by any means.
While he does have a dry sense of humor, he always has a business-like and practical attitude of a soldier. On the field he believes that if an enemy is injured they should be killed, unconscious or not, and it's usually that which has people worried about them. Underneath it all though, he feels a large magnitude of guilt for his research in the past, and what he's done to build up to this point in his life.
On the other side of things however, being well attuned to idling true feelings, he can usually tell when something is wrong with other people. Out of being loyal and allowing another person to admit when they're wrong however, he won't push on a topic until they admit to it themselves, though the occasional jab about it here and there is always welcome. He enjoys letting people believe they're moving on in the right direction, while he knows where they should be. It's all childs' play.

Biography:
Jade was born and raised in the city of Keterburg with his younger sister Nephry, and friend, Saphir Ortion Gneiss. From a very young age, Jade learned Fonic artes, and became highly adept at casting them with the help of his teacher, Dr. Gelda Nebilim. Both he and Saphir grew close to their teacher for different reasons, Jade for wanting to learn control of the Seventh Fonon as she could, and Saphir, for the knowledge of fomicry that Jade and Neblim had been researching. Nephry became worried about her brother, as he didn’t show any signs of understanding the significance of life. Jade practiced his fonic artes on monsters and creatures that lived around the town, and mastered many that even adults found difficult. His sister saw him as a monster that could not see anything but himself as sentient.
She was right in that regard. When Jade was nine, he found his sister crying after she had broken a doll, and to soothe her tears created a replica of the same doll right before her. It did nothing but make her worry more about the fate of her brother. After that, he became immersed in fomicry, extracting data from already existing creatures, and creating a copy that mimicked what had been found. With Saphir to help him build the fontech needed that would create copies they both became immersed in the studies.
It wasn’t only his sister that became worried about what he was doing however, a boy in the city, Peony IX saw the things that his friend was up to, and tried to talk him out of it, however, was unsuccessful. Jade and Saphir both became immersed in trying to control the seventh fonon, despite being told that it wouldn’t work by Neblim. One night, Jade decided to try anyway, and blew up the house that Neblim stayed in. While Saphir panicked and cried over her body, Jade extracted the data from her, and tried to replicate the professor, instead creating something that had to be sealed away. Neblim died later that night. He stated that the only reason he tried to do it at all was to tell her how sorry he was, and beg for her to forgive him.
It was around this time that Saphir and Jade parted ways. Though Saphir tried to follow Jade wherever he went, Jade became cruel and heartless towards his old friend, while in secret he continued to research replication, and how to bring back his teacher. Peony became so worried about Jade’s actions that he went to House Curtiss and requested Jade be adopted by the family so that Peony could keep an eye on him.
Between this time, Jade wrote a number of books on Fomicry, breaking the grounds for new research and becoming well noticed by Belkand scientists that would eventually begin their own fomicry research. He still practiced Fomicry in secret on the battlefield. He became known as Jade the necromancer, as people that had died in war suddenly disappeared, and reappeared as a result of the fomicry research that he practiced in secret. Because Jade couldn’t use the seventh fonon, he performed complicated surgeries on himself to greater control his fon-slots and make up for what he didn’t have. He began to wear glasses, as with the surgery on his eyes, he became unable to limit his fonic artes, and used the glasses as limiters. During this surgery he managed to injure himself, which is when Peony came to him to remind him of how badly he was hurting himself with his insistence on fomicry.
After being adopted by House Curtiss, Peony, now the emperor of Malkuth, took Jade in as a colonel in the Malkuth army where he was convinced to cease fomicry research. During this time he forbade the research of fomicry, and the practice of it on living beings due to issues arising with the practices and deaths coming as a result. Though it hurt him that he would never be able to finish the research and fix what he had done. Once satisfied that it would never give him the results he craved, he cut all ties with it.
Saphir tried many times to turn Jade back to the research, however every time he was refused, and Jade became even more cruel towards him, which caused Saphir to join the Oracle Knights where he could continue the research on his own.
Many years went by while Jade stayed the personal assistant to Peony IX. He began chasing down a group of criminals called the Dark Wings using a massive land ship. Once he had been thrown off the trail, he met two people, Luke and Tear in the town of Engave. While none other were any the wiser to Luke’s identity, Jade seemed to pick up on it rather quickly, however let the duo go to the Cheagle woods without any further prodding. While still in Engave, he did a bit of research, his findings causing him to go after Luke and Tear in the woods, and extend a hand of help to them in a fight versus a liger.
Once all was safe, and they returned to the entrance of the woods, Jade had both Luke and Tear arrested for being in Malkuth without the proper identification and passport papers to cross the border from Kimlasca. When they’re all out of the earshot of Malkuth troops, Jade requests Luke’s help as the son of Duke Fon Fabre to negotiate a peace treaty between Kimlasca and Malkuth to put off a war that had been about to start. Assisted by Fon Master Ion, Luke eventually accepts the request for help, and in return Jade promised to return Luke home.
Unfortunately nothing ever seems to go as planned. During the trip aboard Jade’s land-ship, the entire crew is wiped out by a surprise attack from the Oracle Knights. During the attack, Largo of the Oracle Knights cripples Jade with a fon-slot seal, which makes him unable to cast Fonic Artes until he’s removed the seal. In return, Jade manages to catch him off guard and greatly wound him with his spear. In the commotion everyone manages to escape the Tartarus and head to St. Binah to rendezvous with Anise and Ion.
