New Spells

At the request of some who missed them in the ooc yesterday, I have posted the stories and adventures for the new spells in this thread.

Aeryn has decided it's time to share the secrets of the Aura of Peace she keeps around Protector's Clearing. It is now a third-circle spell those of Nature magic can learn.


The air School has added two new spells people can use. Updraft can be used to send people into the air and then slowly float down over the next couple rounds. Useful if someone needs to get out of harms way from melee targets or you want to send a non-flier up to attack flying targets. Downdrafts causes winged fliers to be slammed to the ground, but can also be used on non-winged fliers to a weaker extent.

In addition, a version of Hinoe's Thunderstorm is now available for air users to learn. Doubles the cost of thunder / Thundera / Thundaga but can strike up to five targets... but be warned, a botch makes it strike 5 targets at random between allies and enemies.

And lastly, an over-eager first-circle wizard found a way to propel himself upwards quickly on a simple gust of wind, allowing himself to jump very high... however he didn't take account what would happen when the spell wears off... after some trial and error High Jump is now being taught at the Air school. allows you to jump up 10 feet times your maximum air circle.. but only upwards. Best make sure you land on what you plan on or that drop could be painful....



The light school has a surprise for all of those students who learned the seemingly useless Ball of Light. you can now upgrade it to give off a pale moonlight and have multiple balls floating around you... that you can now fire off at enemies in an attack that does Cold damage. While the damage is fairly minor, it is particularly effective against shadows and the undead.. in addition, this is one of the few spells that, if you have several cast you can fire off multiple balls in the same round. It is also one of the few magic spells that can use Agility OR Psyche for the attack.

While a student was learning this spell, he managed to make an extremely bright flash in front of Samara that caused her to stagger and fall over her desk chair, giving the class a good view of her rear under her skirt. Once the laughter died down and her embarrassment faded, Samara realized how effective this could be used as an attack. Light students can now use a bright Flare to stun two opponents for 1 round or until struck ( Non-botch attacks while stunned are guaranteed to hit ).



Anerael has returned from an earth casters convention with an interesting tale, a tale of three friendly monsters, who were determined to show they were the greatest earth casters in the world. Fascinated by the challenge and the friendliness of the three, she sat down nearby to watch up close...

The first one, a goblin shaman, managed to infuse the power of earth into pebbles which he fired from his slingshot, causing them to explode on contact with targets, adding a minor amount of Earth damage to them. On hit a man beside Anerael by accident between the eyes, stunning him for a moment. ( This is one of the few spells that, since it's fired from a slingshot, uses agility, and gets a stun bonus on a called shot )

A gnoll earthcaller, not wanting to be outdone by this puny goblin, infused larger rocks with the power of earth, while they couldn't be fired from a slingshot they gave a much more powerful explosive effect when made in contact with someone.

The two the looked over at a hill giant, who blinked at their display. Seeing him coming up with nothing so far, the two laughed at him. Angered and embarrassed, the hill giant summoned a great deal of energy to create a boulder which he picked up and threw at the two smashing into them, flattening them under the boulder as well as stunning them.

Anerael noted that the boulder was quite large and she herself was unable to lift it, but an earth magic user with sufficient strength could make advantage of that third spell...




Wandalyn managed to convince a student to help her in an experiment. She believed that if her and another necromancy wizard cast 'stone homunculus' on the same area of stone they could make one really REALLY big one. She was right.. but then they discovered neither of them could control it! Both Wandalyn and the other student are recovering in the hospital but the knowledge has been used by Marthyra to create the first sixth circle necromancy spell 'Stone Giant'.

A master necromancer and an air caster were on monster island recently, when they got surrounded by monsters. The air caster decided to alter the weather around them in the hopes of bringing down lightning bolts upon the monsters... but instead summoned hail and knocked himself out. The necromancer saw the hail and got an idea. He called up on the spirits to rain down in a 'hail' of his own, to which the spirits decided to steal the life and spiritual energy of the monsters, feeding some to the necromancer and some to heal the air caster. Bewildered by this strange magic the monsters fled.

Mohisha has been used to being taunted for most of her life for her near inability to speak. Though in recent days there has been a student who has, time and time again, interrupted her classes, telling students that they should not listen to, nor respect, a teacher so 'mentally challenged' as he put it, that she can not even speak to them.
After numerous interruptions finally she gestures at the student.. who suddenly started speaking complete gibberish. With a smile she pointed out that clearly he cannot properly speak either, so why should anyone listen to him over her? This newly revealed mind magic spell, if used properly, can even cause spell casters to have difficulty casting spells, though obviously it has no effect on their physical combat abilities.

Two nights later, on the way home from the school, Mohisha was jumped by said student and two of his friends, who was highly angered by his public humiliation. Seeing the fight was quickly being lost, she focused on the student and caused him to suddenly turn and attack his two friends instead, only releasing him from the spell once it was safe for her to do so.
After being arrested for using a mind-controlling spell on an island resident, Mohisha was released after it was determined it was being done only in self-defense as a last resort. This mind spell, formerly thought only to be usable by succubi and incubi, can earn you a new ally for a time, but note inhabitants of the island, and the police, consider such usage on public citizens a hostile action.



Allundra and a pair of fire students recently went out to monster Island for some combat training. Things seemed to be going well at first, until the group was ambushed by a force over two dozen strong. The students began to panic, fearing this size of army would be the death of them, but Allundra only smiled, looking almost excited to see this many.
First, she rose her hands around her, and smoke seemed to fill the area disorientating their opponents and making it harder to see where everyone was, but the fire students seemed unaffected, striking at the foes who could no longer see them. It would seem likely those of air would also be unaffected, though this spell would possibly affect allies as well..
Once the smoke cleared the shamen of the monsters began to use vines to capture the casters, making them easy targets. However Allundra cast another spell, making any vine that touched them immediately burn away. The force of the heat at her feet seemed so fierce it could possibly melt even rock...
In the end, with the other casters weak and exhausted it left Allundra to fight an orc shaman. It spun around for several seconds before looking over at the orc.. before casting fire spell after fire spell at the orc, the tiny creature soon burning the orc to unconsciousness. Satisfied with the excursion, Allundra led her group back to the fort where they discussed plans to teach these new spells to other promising students.. and also warn others NEVER to go hunting with her. c.c



The favorite to win at the inter-world gymnastic competitions, Valicia Hemmel, was disqualified in shocking manner this morning. During one of her competitor's runs the woman suddenly stumbled and face planted mid-floor routine and looked to be struggling to continue her act. It was later determined said Valicia had used her control over shadow magic to restrict her competitor's movement in order to ensure her own championship victory. This shadow ability while allowing most normal movement, tethers them to the ground, restricting their move speed and preventing them from jumping.


Police in Twilight town are reporting yet another theft from the Shadow Bandit, robbing another estate. This time the police were sure they had the man, trapping him on a rooftop, before he suddenly made a bridge out of shadows, allowing him to bridge a large gap between two buildings and run across, dispelling it as officers attempted to follow him. Anyone with information about this shadow Bandit are asked to contact the Twilight Town Police Department.

Several times a year, the Magic School guildmasters come to the Estate to teach those there as well as children about magic. During the visit a few days ago one of the cooks preparing a banquet tripped, spreading pepper all over Venia. The ice dragon sneezed a large burst of ice and frost towards Allundra, the force of with should have done severe injury to the fire guildmaster, if not death.

However, she only ended up taking minimal damage. Confused, Allundra looked around and discovered that Eira cast a spell she had been keeping secret in case of emergencies. One that, when cast on others, grants them resistance to ice magic.


This morning police were alerted to a robbery at the Fells Wargo bank on Fantasy Island!! Police were rushing to the scene but got cut off due to a bunch of rampaging chocobos that had escaped from the farm again. By the time the path was clear the police ere certain the criminal would be long gone.. only to find he was captured by a young ice student. She informed the police she figured out a way to enchant the bottom of her shoes with ice, allowing her to move much faster then normal on the pavement, and was able to overtake and trip up the robber, quickly tying him up and leaving him for police to take.


During testing of magical abilities this afternoon at the magic school, a student showwing off several spells to new students mispronounced the spell for Winter's Breath. Everyone tensed preparing for a chaotic explosion of energy.. instead the error ended up creating a more powerful version of the spell. This Blizzard's Breath has the ability to freeze someone completely in place, and even when free still inflicts them with frostbite that needs a cura or better spell to remove the effects of.
