So over the last little bit I've been trying out this idle game called 'God Awe-Full Clicker'. Yes, that's how it's spelled. And at first glance when you tart out the game seems.. well, to have a very accurate name. It looks awful to begin with, but bear with me, it does get better.
You're a gladiator serving the gods fighting endless monsters. That looks at first to be the entire game, nothing to do but just stare at the screen. Yawn.
BUT! As you level up you start getting the standard stuff, attack skills to use, weapon smith system, god power to spend on abilities.. only you don't get god power form resets, you get them from bosses with a small chance on each enemy.. then you get a skill point system, quests for the gods to go on that unlock various bonuses the gods will cast on you randomly.
The further you are in the game the more skill there are to spend god power on.. currently there is well over 300 skills, most being passive. Depending on the skill You can level it up anywhere from 100 times to 2,000,000 times, so this will not be something you'll max out in a few days.
Then as you continue to progress you soon unlock mini-games.. for example I checked just now a match-3 mini-game that pit your current companion ( mine is a wolf right now ) against various monsters. Every monster you kill earns your main character gold and xp. It plays like any normal match 3, though if you can't find a move your pet will make a move for you ( eventually, it starts off very slow like once every 3 - 4 minutes but gets faster as it levels up ). If your companion 'dies' from running out of health the mini-game starts over at monster level 1.. but your pet keeps it's experience and level, meaning each play-through it gets easier to go further and unlock more bonuses in the mini-game.
Now there are a couple negatives of course. The music and sound is.. kind of poor, even for an idle game. And there is no off-line experience. When you log back in everything is paused where you left it.
The fact that every now and then you unlock more games, and the developer is always adding in more.. for a free game this packs a LOT into it. If you're willing to slot through the first 15 - 25 minutes of having close to nothing to do but stare at the screen and follow a forced tutorial that doesn't allow you to do anything at all but what it says as new features unlock, this idle game may be one of the better ones out there to keep long-term interest.
