Personality: Sonya Blade is a beautiful, stern, tough-as-nails lieutenant. Her impulsiveness is catalyzed by her superior and good friend, Major Jackson “Jax” Briggs. Sonya represents a very emancipated and headstrong woman, but for all her stubbornness and pride, she deeply cares about the lives of her friends and comrades. She has a long-standing enmity with the thug, Kano, who had murdered a former partner of hers, and stands for everything Sonya despises.

Biography: Sonya Blade was born into a military family and, like her father, joined the Marines. She worked hard and eventually became a member of Special Forces under the command of Major Jackson “Jax" Briggs. While infiltrating the Black Dragon organization, her partner was killed by Kano. Sonya made it her mission to bring Kano to justice. After learning that Jax was captured and taken to Shang Tsung’s island, she secretly entered the Mortal Kombat tournament to find him.
After finding Jax, she helped the other Earthrealm warriors during the tournament after her transport was destroyed. After the events of the tournament, Sonya herself is captured, eventually being rescued by Jax.
During the invasion of Earth Realm by Shao Kahn, she is assaulted by Sindel, who kills her companions except for Liu Kang and Johnny Cage. She is present for Shao Kahn's emergence into the Earth Realm, easily being defeated before Raiden destroys Shao Kahn with the help of the Elder Gods.
The loss of friends and allies during the battle with Shao Kahn took its toll on Sonya Blade's sanity. She left the Special Forces and went into seclusion to cope with her grief. Upon her return she was offered a place in the newly formed Outer World Investigation Agency’s Special Forces Division.
