Biography:
Max was born to Gerald and Elena, who comprised a rather wealthy family. His father Gerald was a renowned hunter who had been settling down. Elena, on the other hand, had actually arrived from the future as the leader of a rebel organization embattled with Emperor Griffon (who, in fact, is not a griffon at all). Max's childhood, content as it was among high living and a fair collection of maids and servants, seemed uneventful, but his schooling and intellectual curiosities steered him towards gadgets from a very young age, and he filled his room with them whenever he had a chance. Clocks, pendulums, and other things were in his room, living in the simple town of Palm Brinks.
One day, however, his mother had to leave, for reasons she never told Max, leaving Gerald to cover for her absence...and Max slowly grew more and more frustrated by the day. He was beginning to get angry, though he did pass a good amount of time in Cedric's workshop. Cedric had taken in Max as an apprentice, allowing Max to further steep himself into mechanics and the like. When he grew more and more curious in his craft, as well as the real reason his mother left, Gerald's Red Atlamillia seemed to begin to reject him. Handing it over to Max one day and seeing there were no complications about it, he allowed Max to keep the Red Atlamillia.
At the same time, there were strange occurences. For the past few years, the Blackstone Railroad had been shut down by Mayor Need, essentially cutting Palm Brinks off from the outside world as Emperor Griffon's forces, from several eras, had begun to destroy sections of the world. Additionally, the circus was in town, but one of many nice little diversions that kept the populace blissfully unaware. Max loved the circus, but his ticket was stolen as he approached the entrance. After some apprehension, he had caught the thief, who bowed his head and apologized. Giving it some thought, Max decided to give him the ticket anyway.
Shocked by the act of compassion, the thief started to walk away, before turning his head over his shoulder and speaking in a suddenly female voice. "...you passed. You just might be able to do it! Whatever you do...don't give up that stone." With that, the stranger vanished, leaving the ticket behind as Max went off to see the circus.
Having a hard time getting a good view of the stage, he snuck into the rafters and then heard the voices of the mayor and another man dressed to the 9's as a clown. His name was Flotsam, and he led the circus troupe. The mayor was essentially being blackmailed and threatened if he did not find a specific red stone...and when the boards creaked from above, their gazes turned up toward Max.
"THAT'S THE STONE! FINALLY! AFTER HIM!!"
With that, Max's eyes went wide as he immediately fled the circus tent with all haste.
